As we grow older, we discover that facial wrinkles and fine lines are a fact of life. In some cultures, they are regarded as a sign of wisdom and maturity. But for most of us who want to look and feel younger, they are scary and unwanted features.
A YouTube presentation by Risa Flashner, a renowned makeup artist, has come to the rescue. She has unveiled a technique to help people over 40 keep those embarrassing fine lines and wrinkles far away.
She Combined Two Powerful Makeup Items
To carry out this mission, Flashner enlisted two of the most popular makeup items, concealer and the foundation. In clearly demonstrated steps, she showed her viewers how both of these items can combine beautifully to hide wrinkles and fine lines.

Already, each of these two items is widely used for the same purpose. But many people are yet to see how they can combine to produce a much better result.
Foundations Have Been Doing the Job Since Way Back
Foundations, whether in the form of lotions, creams, or powders are veterans of the war against facial ridges. They form the base of most makeup attempts and have built a solid reputation for creating a uniform color to the skin’s complexion.

Flashner used the foundation as one of the makeup items in her video because of its ability to hide facial blemishes and make skin imperfections less visible.
Why Concealers?
Flashner chose concealers because they do a similar job as foundations. Even though they look similar and are mistaken for foundations, concealers are pretty different. They offer higher pigmentation than foundations and have a thicker consistency.

In areas of the skin that require some additional coverage, you should add concealers on top of foundations or skin tints to do the job.
Flashner Explains the Technique
Flashner declared that this technique can be done using a “sheer or semi-sheer” foundation and any hydrating concealer of choice. The goal is to provide a smoother foundation look.

“With this hack, you are able to get variable amounts of coverage with just one foundation,” she disclosed. She also added that the technique is “beautiful on mature skin” and won’t settle into fine or deep lines in the skin.
Flashner Shows Us How It’s Done
Flashner explained that the technique could require a metal palette for mixing the foundation and the concealer. But just in case you love to keep it simple, she suggests using the pack of your palm.

She also disclosed that you might need to spend the initial stages of learning experimenting with the mixture. “It might take a couple of tries before you figure out what ratio works best for you.”
It’s Time to Mix!
Flashner used a liquid foundation and concealer for her demonstration. She squeezed out one pump of foundation and two drops of concealer on the metal palette.

Thereafter, using a foundation brush, she began mixing the two liquids gently before she began applying them to one side of her face. Showing her viewers the result, she commended the mixture for providing a product that matched her skin.
“Coverage That Still Looks Like Skin”
She went on to give an analysis of the outcome. “I’m getting a coverage that still looks like skin. It’s not emphasizing my pores, and I’m able to do one side of my face with that amount of product.”

Thereafter, she proceeded to produce another mix for the other side of her face. This time, she used two pumps of concealer and less foundation.
The Second Trial Gave a Slightly Different Outcome
After mixing the concealer and foundation in the new ratio, she applied it to the other side of her face to show a slightly different result. “This is giving me more coverage than the other ratio,” she explained.

Even though the difference in the two mixtures isn’t easy to tell on the face, Flashner explained that the second mixture was a little lighter than the first. “It’s still giving a very natural look,” she said of the second ratio.
Some Additional Steps for Those with Oily Skin
Flashner provided some additional recommendations for people with oily skin. “You will want to set this with a powder,” she advised. The powder will cancel out the additional moisture and level the playing field.

Essentially, there’s no one-size-fits-all mixture. Everyone will have to work their way to the mixture that suits their skin the best. That’s because there are lots of factors that make one skin different from the other.
Do What Works for You
As Flashner described, makeup is like a voyage of discovery. Everyone has to find the ratio that does the job best. “You will want to experiment with what works for you,” she said.

Flashner, however, recommended a starting point for everyone. “I would start off with this two-to-one ratio, then experiment from there” she suggested, referring to one pump of foundation and two drops of the liquid concealer.
Flashner Rounded Off with Some Finishing Touches
To finish up the job, Flashner applied some of the regular makeup products to her face. She made use of blush, mascara, eyeshadow, eyeliner, and lipstick.

She then showed her new look in natural lighting to expose the work of the foundation and concealer mixture. Her face looks a lot smoother now, plus, she has a pretty natural look with little or no wrinkles in sight.
