The Truth About Toothpaste on Pimples and Other Beauty Myths

You love a beauty hack that delivers, yeah? Who doesn’t? They save us time and money, and that’s a win-win. We’re always up for achieving amazing results without breaking the bank.

But here’s one thing you must know about beauty hacks: they don’t all live up to the hype. Some can even do more harm than good. Fortunately, we’re here to set the record straight and expose the hacks that just don’t work.

Myth 1: Natural Ingredients are Always Better

While natural ingredients can be great for your skin, not all are safe or effective. Some natural products can cause allergic reactions or irritation.

Source: Pinterest

It’s important to do your research and patch-test any new products, whether they’re natural or synthetic. Natural doesn’t always mean safe, and synthetic doesn’t always mean harmful.

Myth 2: Shaving your Legs makes your Hair Grow Back Thicker

This is a classic myth that’s been around for, like, forever. But shaving does not make your hair grow back thicker or darker. When you shave, you’re cutting the hair at the surface, which can make the regrowth feel coarser because it’s blunt.

However, the structure, color, and growth rate of your hair remain unchanged. If you prefer smooth legs, go ahead and shave them as often as is needed—your hair will simply not grow back thicker.

Myth 3: Expensive Products are Better

Don’t be fooled, high price tags don’t always mean better quality. There are plenty of affordable skincare and makeup products that work just as great (if not better than their pricey counterparts).

So, focus on the ingredients and what works for your skin, rather than the brand name or cost. Reading reviews and doing a little research can help you find effective products within your budget.

Myth 4: Gel Manicures Wreck Nails

Gel manicures have a bad reputation for damaging nails, but it’s not the gel itself that’s the problem. The damage usually comes from improper application or removal. For example, peeling off gel polish can strip layers from your nails, making them weak.

Instead, always have your gels applied and removed by a professional who uses the right techniques and tools. Also, give your nails a break between manicures to keep them healthy.

Myth 5: Chocolate gives You Spots

This is good news for chocolate lovers! There’s no direct link between chocolate and acne. Acne is more influenced by hormones, genetics, and an overall diet than by any single food.

Source: Pinterest

So, enjoy your chocolate in moderation without fear of breakouts. Maintaining a balanced diet and a good skincare routine is more effective at keeping your skin clear.

Myth 6: Toothpaste can Reduce Pimples

Who hasn’t tried the toothpaste trick on a pesky pimple? But here’s the harsh reality: toothpaste can actually irritate your skin and make the pimple even worse.

Source: Pinterest

Toothpaste ingredients like baking soda and hydrogen peroxide can dry out and inflame your skin. So, stick to proven acne treatments like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid for the best results, please!

Myth 7: Wearing Makeup Everyday is Bad for your Skin

You’ve probably heard that wearing makeup every day can clog your pores and cause breakouts. The truth? As long as you’re using quality, non-comedogenic products and cleansing your face properly at the end of the day, wearing makeup isn’t harmful.

Source: Pinterest

What’s crucial is removing all traces of makeup before hitting the bed to prevent clogged pores and skin irritation.

Myth 8: You Need to Wash your Face Every Morning

As good as this sounds, it’s not true. While washing your face in the morning feels refreshing, it’s not a necessity for everyone. If you’ve cleansed your face thoroughly the night before and your skin isn’t particularly oily, splashing your face with water might be all you need.

Source: Pinterest

Overwashing can strip your skin of natural oils, leading to dryness and irritation. Listen to your skin’s needs and adjust your routine accordingly.

Myth 9: Pores Open and Close

You’ve probably heard that pores can open and close, especially with steam or cold water. However, pores don’t have muscles to open or close.

Source: Pinterest

They can appear larger when clogged and smaller when clean, but they don’t change size based on temperature. However, using products that help keep your pores clean, like exfoliants and masks, can make them appear smaller.

Myth 10: Oily Skin Needs no Moisturizer

Even if you’ve got oily skin, it still needs hydration. Skipping moisturizer can actually make your skin produce more oil to compensate.

Source: Pinterest

Opt for a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer that provides the necessary hydration without clogging your pores. Keeping your skin balanced is key to managing oil production and maintaining a healthy complexion.

Myth 11: Tanning Clears Acne

Some people believe that a good tan can dry out pimples and improve skin appearance. However, tanning can actually worsen acne and increase your risk of skin cancer.

UV exposure can lead to premature aging, sunburn, and skin damage. So, stick to safer options like self-tanners or makeup to achieve that sun-kissed glow without harming your skin.
