Want to know how to hang pictures? Hanging pictures can feel overwhelming, but with the right hacks, it’s a breeze! Whether you’re trying to create a perfect gallery wall or just hang a single frame, these simple picture-hanging tips will help you feel like a pro. The best part? You don’t need a ton of tools or experience to get the job done.

Whether it’s a family photo wall in the living room or an eye-catching arrangement of artwork in the hallway, these picture hanging tips will help you tackle any project easily.  Let’s dive right in!

1. Create a Gallery Wall with Paper Templates

If you’re planning a gallery wall, paper templates are your best friend. Trace each frame onto paper, cut out the shapes, and tape them to your wall. This lets you see the layout before committing to nail holes.

Once you’re happy with the arrangement, mark the nail spots. It’s an easy way to get your gallery wall just right without any extra holes.

2. Use Painter’s Tape for Quick Hanging

Painter’s tape is a simple but effective hack for hanging pictures. It helps you plan your layout without any permanent marks on your wall.

Just tape the outline of your frames directly on the wall, use a level to ensure they’re straight, and then hang your pictures. Painter’s tape makes it easy to visualize the result and avoid unnecessary holes.

3. Mark Your Spot with Pushpins

Ensure you nail in the perfect spot. Take a pushpin and place it where your frame’s hanger is. Then, press the frame against the wall.

The pushpin will leave a small mark, showing where to place the nail. It’s a quick, foolproof method that eliminates trial and error when preparing pictures for hanging.

4. Try a DIY Hanging Tool with a Ruler

For a quick DIY picture hanging tool, all you need is a wooden ruler and a screw. Drive a screw into the ruler and hang your picture on it.

Use the ruler to place the picture against the wall, and press firmly to make an indentation where the nail should go. This helps you position your frames perfectly without needing to eyeball them.

5. Use Toothpaste to Mark Nail Spots

Want an easy way to mark nail spots without extra tools? Dab a bit of toothpaste on the back of your frame where the hanger is located.

Press the frame against the wall, and the toothpaste will leave a mark in exactly the right spot. It’s a simple, mess-free method for hanging pictures quickly and easily.

6. Try Hanging Wire with a Fork

Using picture hanging wire can be tricky, but a simple fork can make it easier. Place a fork over the nail or screw in the wall, with the handle sticking out.

Then, slide the hanging wire down the handle onto the nail. Once the picture is in place, remove the fork. This keeps your picture wire from slipping and ensures a perfectly hung frame.

7. Stop Pictures from Tilting with Putty

If you’ve ever hung a picture only to find it tilts over time, this is one of the best picture hanging tips you can try. Attach a small piece of mounting putty to the bottom corners of your frame, then press the picture firmly against the wall.

The putty will keep the frame securely in place and prevent it from shifting or tilting over time.

8. Avoid Drilling Dust with a Sticky Note

Drilling holes can create a lot of dust, but here’s a quick way to prevent the mess. Fold a sticky note in half and tape it just below where you’re drilling.

The folded part will catch the dust, keeping your workspace clean. It’s an easy, low-cost solution for mess-free picture hanging.

9. Level Pictures Using Your Smartphone

Don’t have a traditional level handy? No problem! Use your smartphone’s built-in level app to make sure your pictures are perfectly straight.

Hold your phone against the top of the frame, and adjust until the app shows it’s level. It’s a quick, modern way to ensure professional-looking results.

10. Try Floating Shelves for a No-Nails Solution

Floating shelves are an easy, no-nail solution for displaying pictures. You can switch up the frames whenever you like without putting new holes in the wall. Plus, they create a stylish, layered look that adds depth to your space.

It’s a hassle-free way to showcase your pictures while keeping your walls damage-free.

11. Make Picture Hanging Fun and Stress-Free

With these fun and simple picture-hanging hacks, you can turn a tricky task into an enjoyable experience.

Whether you’re using toothpaste, painter’s tape, or DIY tools, these tips will ensure your pictures are hung straight, stylishly, and without stress. Now, grab your frames, try out these hacks, and enjoy decorating your walls like a pro!
