Get Your Microwaving Right With These Tricks

Microwaving food is supposed to be quick and convenient, but are you doing it right? Have you ever put your food in the microwave, expecting it to be all hot and nice? Then you see some parts are hot and others cold like they were left out of the party?

There’s a bunch of tricks we’ll share with you in this article, so you can start microwaving your food right.

Choose Edge over Center

The normal thing you’ve been used to is putting your food in the center of the plate before putting it into the microwave. But that’s the reason your food doesn’t get warmed completely.

Putting your food at the edge would ensure all parts are heated evenly.

The Water Cup Trick

Sometimes, your food comes out all dry, even when hot, when you use a microwave. How can you avoid that?

Put water in a microwave-safe cup and put it next to your plate of food.

When you put the microwave on, the water soon turns to steam and moistens the microwave. This keeps your food nice and soft.

Cover It Up

When you microwave food without covering it, the heat spreads all over the place. It doesn’t concentrate on the food it’s supposed to be working on. This leaves some parts hot and the others, cold.

Covering it would trap the steam and spread the warmth all round. Use the microwave special lid or a microwave-safe cover.

Stir It Midway

If you want to get the best of your microwaved food, you should actually treat it the same way as you treat the food in the pot. When your microwave is on, stir the food halfway.

Doing this helps the heat go circulate evenly and allows all the parts to get heated properly. When done, you’ll have food that is well-heated and enjoyable.

Spacing is Key

Normally, when a place is jam-packed or stuffed with people, there’s no way for air to get through to all of them. In this case, when you stuff your microwave, expecting it to work wonders by heating the food properly, it will not work.

Don’t put so much in at the same time. Let there be space for the heat to circulate and work on the food.

Lower The Power

You know your speaker or headphones give their best when they’re not at the highest volume. Same way, your microwave would give its best when it’s not at its highest power.

When you microwave on a lower setting, the heat goes into your food slower and more evenly. This is very useful especially when you have something very thick in the microwave.

Donut Hole Technique

Do you know the last and hardest parts of getting heated in a microwave are the middle parts? The top and sides get all the heat, while the middle suffers until the sides decide to share some heat.

Source: Pinterest

You can make the heat touch all the parts evenly by creating a hole in the middle of the food, just like a donut.

Slice it Right

Picture having to share a pizza with your friends. When you’re slicing, you’ll make sure you share all the parts equally, so nobody gets a bigger slice than the other.

Source: Pinterest

That’s the same approach you should have when it comes to your microwave. Don’t put very big chunks of chicken and little pieces of beef to heat up together. The bigger chunks would always suffer from it.

Flip and Rotate

You know we want all parts of our food heated and ready when the microwave bell dings that it’s done. So, another way to make this happen is by flipping and rotating.

Source: Pinterest

When it has warmed for a bit, turn your food upside down, so that heat gets to the bottom as much as the top. Also, you can rotate it, such that the front is now the back. That way, heat touches every part.

Use Microwave-Safe Cookware

When microwaving your food, don’t just use any kitchenware. Use the microwave-safe ones. They were made specially to handle direct heat without getting damaged.

Source: Pinterest

Those other containers that are not meant for the microwave can melt. They can also allow chemicals to get into your food, and we wouldn’t want that.

Let it Sit

When you hear the ‘ding’ sound, don’t rush to quickly grab the food. The microwave is not done yet. So, give it some time.

This time you’re allowing the heat to circulate more and still touch those parts that may not have gotten enough heat before. This is another part where the magic happens.
